In the Clinical Medical and Surgical Center of the Ministry of Health of the Omsk Region, an operation was performed using new high-tech materials - carbon nanostructured implants

A patient with a traumatic osteomyelitis of the tibia performed a replacement of the damaged bone with this modern material. The operation is unique not only for Omsk, but also for Russian public health. The Clinical Medical and Surgical Center has become one of the five major trauma clinics in Russia, where these technologies are being introduced.

Carbon nanostructured implants are an innovative domestic development, manufactured at the Research Institute in St. Petersburg and used to replace bone defects due to injuries, fractures and purulent processes. They are made of a durable, porous carbon material produced by the original patented innovative technology. This technology allows you to produce materials that are as close to their properties as possible to the properties of human bones and possess a special porous structure that ensures rapid germination of the bone with the formation of a bone-carbon block.

Earlier in Russia, when replacing bone defects, foreign expensive implants were used from various materials such as: metal, porous titanium and even coral. Unlike its predecessors, domestic development, in addition to low manufacturing costs, has a number of technological advantages: high biological compatibility with body tissues (do not cause allergic reactions and rejection), mechanical strength, ease in modeling for cavity size, provides early immobilization limbs), it is easily combined with any fixation systems.

By introducing this innovation, traumatologists of the Clinical Medical and Surgical Center together with the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics of OmGMU have been engaged in medical treatment for two years already. During this time, they did a great job, as a result of which the properties of the material were studied and a unique technique for the application of carbon nanoimplants was developed.

"Using this material will allow us to significantly improve the quality of operations in complex patients. In addition, he has great prospects. In the future, we plan to expand the scope of its application: to introduce it in the revision of endoprosthetics, and also to use as a container of medicines in the treatment of osteomyelitis, "said the chief freelance specialist of traumatologist orthopaedist of the Omsk Region Health Ministry, head of the department of traumatology and orthopedics OmGMU professor Reznik L .B.
