In hospital emergency medical service number 1 introduced a new X-ray surgery operation

Surgeons of the city emergency hospital number 1 for the first time performed embolization of prostate arteries in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (prostate adenoma). The institution is the only one in the region performing such operations. As specialists note today, this is the most highly effective and low-traumatic method of affecting prostate adenoma. To date, 4 patients have been operated. All of them feel well and are ready for discharge.

The essence of the procedure is embolization (blockage, blockage) of arterial vessels, blood supplying the enlarged prostate. As a result, it decreases. The procedure is performed in a special X-ray room equipped with an angiographic device, which makes it possible to obtain an image in the mode of X-ray television.

Embolization of the arteries of the prostate is performed by endovascular surgeons, because the procedure requires a large experience of manipulation on vessels of extremely small diameter (often less than 1 mm) and the ability to control their actions by means of an X-ray machine using an angiographic device.

Embolization is a painless, low-traumatic procedure, so anesthesia is not required. Only local anesthesia is used at the puncture site.

The main advantages of this operation are also the rapid restoration of the patient's working capacity, the extremely low probability of any complications in comparison with surgical methods of treatment, the period of hospitalization is 1 day. Patients after the procedure do not need bandaging, anesthesia and intensive care, outside help.

It is worth noting that for the patients of the institution the procedure is conducted free of charge for medical reasons in the framework of the territorial program of state guarantees.

According to international studies, in the vast majority of patients, a sharp decrease in the symptoms of prostatic adenoma and complete normalization of functions are observed already in the first month after the procedure.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia or prostate adenoma is one of the most common diseases of men older than 40 years. According to statistical data, this disease is present in 5-8% of all men on the planet. And a significant proportion of patients need surgical treatment.
